実はあどけない山羊のデザインには隠された裏のコンセプトがあります。それは有事の際果たして、沖縄県民は本当に安全なのか?という、不安。
There is a hidden concept behind the innocent goat T-shirt.
Which is an anxiety that I feel occasionally,
“Will Okinawans be protected if something goes wrong.”
島の可愛い山羊をモチーフにしたデザイン、ではありますが実はその裏に、隠されたメッセージがあります。八重山諸島に米軍の基地はありませんが、沖縄本島には複数の米軍基地があります。沖縄における在日米軍基地と、専用施設の面積は、沖縄本島の面積の約１８％を占めています。実際この目で見てみるとその広大さに驚かされます。基地は金網で囲まれていますがこれだけ広大な土地だと、金網が取り囲んでいるのは米軍基地なのか、はたまた沖縄の方なのか、と思えてきたりします。金網の向こう側は、完全武装で平和を保っている場所、そしてこちら側は武力を持たずに、絶対戦争を起こしてはいけないと平和を祈っている沖縄県民の暮らす場所。このような状況で何か起きた時、果たして沖縄県民は安全なのかという単純な疑問が湧いてくるのです。そんな不安に怯える沖縄県民をか弱く愛くるしい山羊にたとえています。金網の外にいる山羊は本当に安全なのか？いち県民の不安をデザインしたのがこのＴシャツなんです。
The T-shirt is a design of a goat that you see often here on the island, but there is a hidden concept behind this. As you may know, we have a large US base in Okinawa, although none in the Yaeyama islands at the moment, the total area of the base is 18% of the area of main island Okinawa. You may be surprised to see how big it is when you are standing by the base. It is surrounded by tall wire fencing, and you get the strange feeling that it may be us Okinawans who are surrounded in fencing and not the base itself. The land within the fencing is fully armed and is said that they are keeping peace. And the people on this side are unarmed and thinking daily that we may never start a war again, hoping for peace. So if something happens in this situation, are we really safe? Is the question I have. The innocent goat represents the anxiety in the Okinawan people. Is the goat outside of the cage really safe? Is based on the concept that hits a local’s mind from time to time.
